HEALTHCARE RANKINGS ARE IN: New York and Pennsylvania are ranked at the top when it comes to healthcare. New York came in first place and Pennsylvania in third in a new study by Healthcare Transformers that ranked healthcare in every state across the country to reveal the top 20 (and worst) places to live in the US for healthcare.
Using a variety of data points to reach a total score of 100, the two states in our region are at the top of this report.
Even though Pennsylvania is ranked third-best state to live in for healthcare with a score of 57.4, it beat out New York, which was rated number one with an overall score of 58.9, in the cost or dollar amount per resident spent on healthcare. On average, New York residents spend a whopping $9,851 per capita, whereas Pennsylvania residents healthcare costs average about $7,311.
At a time when every penny counts, these amounts are significant.
New York surpassed Pennsylvania in life expectancy data reports. People in New York, on average, live almost two and half years longer than Pennsylvanians. The numbers from the report were: New York, 80.5 years and Pennsylvania, 78.1 years.
The study also found that Pennsylvania is one of the best places to live for great healthcare because there are 0.14 hospitals per 10,000 people in the state, which is a higher number than 33 other states. This translates to there being 73,166 people per hospital in Pennsylvania. There is a 71% patient satisfaction rate in this state, and an average of 750.7 annual deaths per 100,000 people.
