VDAY SPENDING: According to the personal-finance website WalletHub, which recently released its report on 2022’s Best Places for Valentine’s Day, 70 million Americans expect their partner to spend less this year compared to last year. The total spent last year was $21.8 billion. In an interesting contradiction, however, spending for 2022 for Valentine’s Day is predicted to come in at $23.9 billion. That breaks down to $175.41 per person celebrating the holiday, according to Wallethub.
The top 20 places to spend Valentine’s Day this year, according to the report, range from San Francisco Calif. at No. 1 to Los Angeles at No. 20.
Meanwhile, rounding out the Top 5 are Seattle, Wash., Honolulu, Hawaii, Orlando, Fla. and San Diego, Calif. Evidently couples enjoy warm getaways for the February holiday.
Washington, D.C. comes in at No. 6, the first East Coast location to make the list. Pittsburgh, meanwhile, comes in at No. 15., Raleigh, NC, at No. 17 and Boston at No. 19.
If you are looking for love this year, almost a third of people are reporting that money matters more in a relationship, compared to studies conducted before COVID. Also, 37% more Americans say they would not marry someone with bad credit these days, compared to pre-COVID priorities. For those in a relationship, 53% say that financial infidelity is worse than cheating.
Another interesting Valentine’s Day fact for consideration: Men plan to spend almost twice as much as women, on average, with an estimated $6.2 billion expected to go for jewelry, $2.3 billion for flowers and $2.2 billion for candy. Also, 58% of Americans say that romantic gestures mean more now than they did before the onset of the pandemic.
