The Marilyn Horne Museum and Exhibit Center, including its café and gift shop, is temporarily closed due to a burst sprinkler line in the museum.
Museum Director Matthew Hileman said that the pipe burst around noon Friday, and staff are assessing damages.
The museum closure will include postponing a concert by PHAT Brass scheduled for Saturday evening at the Harriett B. Wick Chapel at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
In January 2019, a pipe burst in the museum’s theater during a cold snap causing minor and isolated water damage.
Hileman said, “Since the last incident of this kind, we have been implementing mitigating procedures to ensure this sort of thing doesn’t happen. However, Horne Hall is a historic, 90-year-old structure, and in circumstances of extreme weather like we are currently experiencing, these things sadly can happen. That said, we were able to get the situation under control quickly.”
The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford has owned Marilyn Horne Hall, previously known as the Seneca Building, since it was given to the university in 2006 by Dr. Robert Weiss of Warren and his wife, Mary.
In 2017, the university renamed the building Marilyn Horne Hall in honor of Bradford’s most famous daughter. The 3,400-square-foot Marilyn Horne Museum and Exhibit Center, which is part of the university, opened later that year.
