BROOKVILLE — Karsyn Gracey-Dalton turned in a pair of first-place finishes to lead the Bradford swim team, as the boys and girls each dropped Tuesday’s meet to Brookville.
Gracey-Dalton won the girls 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:33.36 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:18.34. She also swam the third leg of Bradford’s victorious girls 200 medley relay team, which came from behind to edge the Lady Raiders by less than a second.
Carly Evers, Kendall Gracey-Dalton and Abbie Nuzzo each also swam quick times to compile a 2:09.16 team mark in the relay, just ahead of Brookville’s 2:09.68. Nuzzo tracked down Brookville’s anchor swimmer on the last leg of the race, securing the victory for the Lady Owls.
Karsyn Gracey-Dalton’s 200 IM victory also required a come-from-behind swim on the final stretch, as did Steve Williams’ victory in the boys 200 IM (2:22.38). Williams also placed second in the boys 100 backstroke, while Nuzzo tied for second in the girls 100 freestyle.
“The meet went really well,” said Bradford coach Jeff Cattoni. “My swimmers are right where I want them this time of year. They are sore and tired from long practices over the holidays. That being said, they swam good times.”
Also on the girls side for Bradford, Mallory Whitlow won the 100 backstroke in 1:13.77 and placed second in the 200 freestyle.
The boys relay team of Williams, Peyton Haight, Aiden Yeager and Harris Bell swam to a lopsided victory in the 400 free relay. Their time of 4:02.82 beat Brookville’s top team by nearly 45 seconds.
Haight added a first-place finish in the 500 free with a personal best time of 5:42.51, and a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, while Bell was second in the 200 free and 100 fly. Yeager added a third-place finish in the 100 free.
Brookville won the boys team score by a 105-46 margin, and won the girls team score 108.5-46.5.
Bradford will be back in action tonight at 6 p.m. against St. Marys. The meet will be swam at Pitt-Bradford, as will a make-up meet against DuBois on Jan. 26.
“I am going to stress the little things in this meet,” Cattoni said. “Fast starts, good turns/underwaters and great finishes. If the swimmers can manage those things perfectly vs St. Marys, it will be a great meet all around.”
