LEWIS RUN — A Smethport man was killed in a one-vehicle accident on Christmas Eve.
According to Investigator Matthew Blaze of the Lewis Run-based State Police, at 11:28 a.m. on Dec. 24 the driver of a 2013 Ford F-150, David Shick, 78, of Smethport was involved in a fatal crash on Champlin Hill Road in Annin Township.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police Shick’s vehicle was traveling downhill when he lost control of the vehicle, presumably due to icy road conditions. The vehicle crossed into the westbound lane of traffic and west berm before leaving the roadway.
Once off the roadway the vehicle traveled approximately one hundred and sixteen feet where it struck a tree. Following the initial impact, the vehicle proceeded to travel 29 feet before striking a second tree.
Shick was pronounced deceased on the scene, while his passenger, Linda Shick escaped injury. She was treated on the scene by emergency medical services and released.
