GARLIC: Andy Heffner let us know that he’s recovering from COVID. Sadly, his wife had passed from the virus.
Andy has been without a sense of smell or taste for about 4 months, and has been eating only yogurt and Boost shakes. He lost 58 pounds, but doesn’t recommend the diet.
Now if RTS fans remember, Andy is a garlic aficionado. Well he just had to have some of his favorite snack, so each day he’s been eating a clove or two — or four. He decided to put some in the food processor with some olive oil and make himself a garlic sandwich like he used to eat.
However, he couldn’t tolerate the bread. So he made half a sandwich, added more garlic to it and was able to eat it.
“My tastebuds are back 100 percent,” he said, “and so is my sense of smell.”
Andy went to the doctor, and “he got all excited and said maybe this is a breakthrough!”
He told us, “I put it down to prayer and eating raw garlic.”
Andy said he doesn’t know if his plan would work for everybody, but he’s hopeful it might.
There are benefits and drawbacks to eating raw garlic, so we’d recommend talking to your doctor before making any drastic changes.
Studies have shown that eating garlic can reduce the risk of becoming sick with a cold or the flu, but cooking it can reduce the benefits.
We’re not sure if Andy’s on to something, but we’re glad he’s getting better. And we extend our sympathies for the loss of his wife.
