Cowanesque Valley Tournament
Wellsville (N.Y.) 46, Northern Potter 21 (championship)
WESTFIELD — Marley Adams paced Wellsville with 14 points to lead Wellsville to a Cowanesque Valley Tournament championship.
Adams had seven points in the first quarter to help Wellsville take an early lead. Wellsville took a 25-7 lead into halftime. Emily Costello had five points in the third quarter to make sure that Northern Potter wouldn’t be able to mount a comeback.
Megan Hyde led for NoPo with nine points and made two 3-pointers. NoPo struggled with free throw shooting, going 3-11 from the line. Wellsville went four fewer times, but made more shots, especially in the first half, that helped them to the win.
“Hyde led in rebounds with Courtney and Rebecca Martin rebounding well also,” said NoPo head coach Casey Cady. “In true Panther form they didn’t give in and they didn’t give up playing hard until the final buzzer.”
