Otto-Eldred 56,
Portville 46
DUKE CENTER — Lights out shooting from three led Otto-Eldred to a season opening win over visiting Portville in the Randy Stebbins Memorial Classic.
O-E made three 3-pointers in the first quarter and five by halftime. Gavin Jimerson earned a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead all scorers in the win. Landon Francis put up 15 points and five assists to help spread out the offensive production while Austin Cousins hit four 3-pointers on his way to 14 points. Cohen Walker had just two points but snagged six boards to help his team on defense.
Luke Petruzzi led Portville with 16 points and hit two 3-pointers. He scored two points in the third quarter and four in the fourth to narrow O-E’s lead and make the game close down the stretch. Aidan DeFazio had 10 points for Portville.
“It was a great first night in the TerrorDome,” said O-E head coach Steve Bell. “The stands were packed for all the games. Our crowd definitely gave us some motivation and we came out quick, going up nine nothing to start the game.”
While O-E would lead for most of the game, Portville steadily closed the gap down the stretch. But the Terrors shot well on the night and Francis refused to miss when sent to the free throw line.
“(Francis) hit a 3-pointer with two minutes left to put us up five and then went 6-6 from the line to ice the game,” said Bell. “(I) really want to thank our fans for coming out.”

(Sheffield Tournament)
Sheffield 30,
Port Allegany 29
SHEFFIELD — After a back-and-forth fourth quarter that saw a Port Allegany comeback fall just short, Sheffield capitalized on its late-game opportunities to hold on for a narrow win over the Gators.
Sheffield had held Port scoreless for the majority of the final stanza before the Gators shifted to a full-court press, forcing turnovers that helped them climb back into the game and take the lead. In the end, it ended up coming down to a free throw contest, a category that neither team excelled at in Friday’s first-round Sheffield Tournament contest.
Port led by a point late when it fouled the Wolverines, causing a 1-for-2 trip to the free throw line for Sheffield. After Port missed a layup on its ensuing possession, it fouled again, and Sheffield followed with the same result at the line.
The Wolverines fouled the Gators with a second to play, but neither free throw was converted, allowing Sheffield to escape and advance to the championship game of the tournament.
“I was pleased with our defense overall,” Port coach Kyle Babcock said. “I thought we did a great job fighting back. We were down seven with a minute to go and kept grinding. Defensively, I thought we played great, but offensively we just need to score more and make our free throws.”
The Gators forced 18 turnovers while committing just 12. Noah Archer led Port with nine points.

EMPORIUM — Domenic Allegretto’s big second quarter sparked Ridgway’s offense in a season-opening 40-25 win over Cameron County on the road.
Allegretto scored seven points in the second quarter to turn a two point deficit into a 19-11 halftime lead. Jack Berringer was right with him, nailing a 3-pointer in the second frame too. Berringer had four points in the fourth quarter to make sure the Elker lead didn’t waver.
Returning letterwinner, Camdyn Allison, led the Red Raiders with 15 points and got hot late. He scored two 3-pointers in the final quarter to try and bring CC back into it. He was the only Red Raider to make more than one field goal on the night.
Fouls were an issue for both teams, with Ridgway giving up nine and CC 14. Although the teams did well to allow just 10 combined trips to the free throw line.
