KERSEY — For the second year in a row, the Elk County Fair and the Ridgway Salvation Army are hosting a drive-thru Christmas display entitled, Holiday Lights at the Fairgrounds, Unstoppable Christmas.
This year, guests will experience the lights just as they did last year. In keeping up with the current pandemic times of COVID, this is a drive through event only, according to Jeremy Dorsey, Elk County Fair Board president.
“Help us spread some holiday cheer this year by signing up to decorate an area for the six-day event,” Dorseyrequested, explaining that businesses and organizations looking for cheap advertising can reserve a 25 foot wide spot to decorate for only $25.
Clubs, churches, groups, teams, families and individuals who would like to assemble their own display are welcome to participate as well.
“We were approached by Major Ron Heimbrock of the Salvation Army in Ridgway with the idea and the turnout last year was beyond expectation,” Dorsey recalled.
According to Brandy Hollobaugh of the Elk County Fair Board, the event raised more than $10,000 — which was split between the Ridgway Salvation Army and the Elk County Fair.
The Holiday Lights at the Fairgrounds, Unstoppable Christmas, will run from 6 to 9 p.m. on December 17, 18 and 19, as well as Dec. 26, 27 and 28 at the Elk County Fairgrounds located at 316 Dietz Road in Kersey.
According to Dorsey, there are no special requirements to attend the event, although donations are appreciated. Individuals willing to donate can contribute the funds at the gate. All donations, once again, will benefit the Elk Country Fair and Salvation Army.
“We are expecting a good turnout this year. The support from the community was overwhelming and simply amazing during last year’s event,” stated Dorsey. “We are excited to see how things come together this year and expect a bigger and better show than last year!”
