Bradford Little Theatre (BLT) is seeking children, teens and adults to audition for “Beanstalk! The Play!” directed by Kristin Asinger and written by Ross Mihalko and Donna Swift.
Rehearsals will begin Jan. 3rd with performance dates set for Jan. 28-30.
Described by Concord Theatricals, “This fun family show follows the adventures of Jack, a young boy with his head in the clouds and his nose in a book of fairytales. When the magic beans Jack trades for the family cow grows into a gigantic beanstalk, Jack finally gets the chance to have a fairytale adventure of his very own. Now if he can only find the treasure, save his family, and get the cow back, today might just really be his magical fairytale afterall. Filled with hilarious characters and more twists than a climbing vine, Beanstalk! The Play! is one show that’s guaranteed to grow and grow and grow right into your heart.”
Asinger said, “This play has 19 characters with flexible casting, so several people will have the opportunity to take part in this twisted tale and with only a one month commitment and all parts being small to medium in size, learning lines and blocking will feel smooth and seamless. It is also the perfect show for family members to audition together.”
Characters include: The Giant, a big man with a big appetite. The Giant’s Wife, a woman with a big heart. Five Narrators who tell the tale. Jack, a kind-hearted boy who believes in fairytales. Jack 2, Jack in disguise. Jack 3, Jack in another disguise. Jack’s Mother, a grumpy woman. Cow, Jack’s best friend. The Skunk Merchant, Cheese Merchant, Beanseller and Potpourri Merchant. The Hen, The Harp and The One That Got Away.
Auditions will be held at Togi’s Playhouse, 18 Welch Ave. on Wednesday, Dec. 1st from 5-6:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 4th from 10 a.m. to noon. Auditions will include readings from the script as well as acting exercises, so actors should dress comfortably. Arrive early to fill out an audition form and a conflict calendar.
