The University of Pittsburgh men’s basketball team picked up its first loss of the season as it fell 92-82 to Juniata on Tuesday night.
The Panthers fell behind the visitors early due to 10 straight points in the first two minutes from the Eagles. The Panthers were able to keep in shouting distance throughout the middle of the first half, as a Nathan Schneider three-point play put the Panthers down six with nine to go in the half. Unfortunately for Pitt-Bradford, the Eagles finished the half on a 19-10 run to send the game to the break with a 15 point advantage.
After the break, the Eagles pushed their lead to 20, but the Panthers responded, slowly cutting the deficit to 11 with 11 minutes to go in the contest. The Panthers eventually whittled the lead down to six points with two minutes to go, but Juniata made nine of 11 from the charity stripe to put the game away.
Nathan Schneider paced the Panthers with 26 points. He shot seven of 15 from the field and made 12-16 from the free-throw line. He also had seven rebounds and six assists. Greg Archie set a season-high with 18 points on seven of 11 from the field. Isaiah Archie recorded his first career double-double, finishing the game with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Dylan Meyer also chipped in on the Panther effort, scoring seven points, including a big second-half three-pointer, and grabbing seven rebounds.
The loss moves the Panthers to 2-1 on the season. They will head back on the road this Friday for a non-conference matchup with Keuka. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
