VETERANS: Nov. 11 is Veterans Day, and local veteran Alex “Dick” Freeman has a reminder for us.
He stopped by The Era this week to share his story and remind us that Veterans Day is a good time to reach out to a veteran you know, especially since we have so few World War II veterans still with us.
Freeman suggests you pick up the phone and call them to say thanks or visit them if you can. This goes a long way for these men and women who served.
Freeman served on the USS Boston in the Pacific War Zone from 1944 to 1946 and also with the Air Force during the Korean War, from 1951 to 1953 in the Pacific Zone.
We thank him and all local veterans for your service.

FLAGS: We had a reader stop in recently who was sad to see the state of some of the flags flown in the City of Bradford. With Veterans Day tomorrow, we thought today was a good day to pass on a reminder that flags that have been damaged, had color bleached by the sun or are worn should be retired and replaced whenever possible.

TODAY: Today, the United States Marine Corps commemorates the establishment of the Continental Marines.
The United States Marine Corps, a branch of the United States Armed Forces, is responsible for providing power protection from the sea.
They use the mobility of the United States Navy to deliver combined-arms task forces rapidly. The Continental Congress first established the Continental Marines on November 10, 1775, leading up to the American Revolution.
