Bradford City Council approved a resolution to put the demolition of the former McCourt Label building, located at 146 West Washington Street, out for bid during Tuesday’s meeting.
City Administrator Chris Lucco reported during the Board of Health meeting, held prior to city council, that the bid package is being finalized and should be ready by the end of the week. The resolution specifically addressed the back portion of the building, which is the more immediate concern.
Council also approved the second reading of the amendment to the solid waste ordinance in the city. That amendment includes the addition of electronics pickup by appointment, at a cost of $10 for three items and $5 for each additional item. Payment must be made before pickup is scheduled.
City of Bradford Mayor James McDonald announced that he will be sharing the number of service calls received by the City of Bradford Police Department going forward. He stated that during the month of October, the City Police received 688 calls for service.
“These guys show up, day in and day out,” McDonald said, sharing his gratitude to the force for their hard work.
He also reported that Bradford City Police officers may look “woolier” if you see them this month. As a fundraiser to benefit the United Way, officers paid $40 to participate in “No Shave November” and will be foregoing their razors for the month. The fundraiser brought in $480 from police department participants, McDonald reported.
McDonald congratulated Helen Schuster for winning the Harvey L. Golubock Business Competition, stating “the award was well-deserved” and that her business idea is likely to add jobs for our area.
McDonald also reported that new traffic lights at the intersection of East Main and Main streets should be functional in the next few days.
In other business, council approved facade improvement grants in the amount of $5,000 for Scott Burns for Burns & Burns Insurance at 10 Chestnut Street and Todd Hennard for 78 Main Street for the Forest Oil Building.
They also approved the renewal of an agreement with AmTrust North America, providing worker’s compensation insurance for the city. Lucco reported that, for the first time, the city received a reduction in the premium for worker’s comp and thanked city employees for their continued efforts to keep the levels down.
