SMETHPORT — Smethport Borough Council accepted an offer of $23,400 Monday for the sale of a used bucket truck from the borough-owned electric department.
According to Kevin Seipp, a borough employee, bidding became very competitive in the final stages of the sale before a man from Tamaqua was the eventual buyer.
In another issue involving borough vehicles, maintenance director Matt Dart said two trucks, one each for the sewer and water departments, and a police vehicle have been ordered through COSTARS, the state’s cooperative purchasing program that is cost-effective, and administered by the Pennsylvania Department of General Services.
Council also approved several other matters. One was the payment of $2,525 to E & M Engineers and Surveyors for the annual inspection of the dam on Mechanic Street.
Council renewed the contract for Haberberger Disposal to provide service to commercial and residential customers in the borough. The company has informed council about new monthly residential collection rates, effective in January: $25 and $20 for senior citizens.
After a brief discussion, council decided to hold an adjourned meeting to consider the 2022 budget at 7 p.m. Nov. 23. Such a meeting must be held ten days prior to the next council meeting. Final action on the spending plan is slated for Dec. 6.
Councilman Jeff Tanner reported the borough shade tree commission has planted two of the seven trees purchased for the fall planting.
Council met for approximately 20 minutes in an executive session to discuss legal and personnel matters.
