Bradford’s own Spencer Cornelius and Jake Franz took part in the PIAA 3A state golf championship Tuesday at Heritage Hills Golf Course.
This was Cornelius’ second trip to the state championships. He finished tied for 39th place after shooting 80.
“Didn’t have the round he wanted,” said Bradford coach Travis Faulkner. “Started off the front nine with three birdies. Had one bad hole, which didn’t help his front nine score. Other than that he hit really well in the front nine. Then in the back nine, the putting turned very difficult, he ended up with a 43 on the back.”
Monday was not the ending that Faulkner wanted for one of the most decorated players in Bradford boys golf. But his impact will be felt, even after Cornelius is gone.
“What he has done for our program being a three-time district champion,” said Faulkner. “He represented Bradford at the highest level, he competed with the best, not only in the state, but in the whole northeast.”
Franz shot 86 to tie for 63rd place in his first trip to states’.
“Started off, birdied hole two, got his round off to a good start,” Faulkner said. “He was just holding on… (the) wind and course were extremely difficult. He had an excellent round and excellent year for us as his second sport. Excited for him in his next two years and to see what he can do at the state level.”
