SMETHPORT — During a brief meeting of the McKean County commissioners Tuesday morning, Commissioner Carol Duffy presented an informational look at the Discover PA Six website that was launched Aug. 31.
Workforce Solutions for North Central PA announced the launch of this website that is designed to increase awareness of the exceptional career opportunities and quality of life in the six counties of north central Pennsylvania: Cameron, Clearfield, Elk, Jefferson, McKean and Potter counties.
Workforce Solutions led this initiative for North Central PA/North Central Workforce Development Board, which established an advisory team comprised of employers, economic and community development agencies, chambers of commerce, as well as other individuals to assist in the development and execution of the Discover PA Six marketing campaign.
“A connection is included for PA Career Link, which is not just an employment service, but offers many other services,” said Duffy, the McKean County elected official who is a member of the Governance Committee of North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission.
“Not only does this website tell about the availability of jobs and needed skills in various sectors of the local economy, but it also showcases the beauty of the area,” Duffy added.
Testimonials are also part of the website at www.discoverpasix.com. Anyone can use this webpage to promote the area, according to Duffy.
“Workforce Solutions did a fantastic job on this website,” Duffy said.
Fellow commissioners agreed.
Commissioners Okd the expenditure of $28,241 for the 911 switching project, which will replace old switches, some of which are 12 to 15 years old. Jean Hendrickson, director of informational technology, said, “Replacing our core switches is part of upgrading the infrastructure at the 911 Center. An outside vendor could help with the configuration if needed, but most of the work can be done by our staff.”
Two applications for County Aid were approved. Hamilton Township plans to encumber their allocation of $1,798 for a future project. In Norwich Township, supervisors plan to use their amount of $2,526 for winter road maintenance.
The commissioners’ next public meeting will be at 10 a. m., Oct. 12.
