FOOTBALL: Gary Haven of Lewis Run was reminiscing with friends Friday about Bradford’s last undefeated season and realized it has been 50 years this year. They reached out to share this with The Era.
That year, Bradford did not have a field. Instead, they played home games in Smethport.
The team faced off with teams from Erie, Johnstown, Kane, Warren, Meadville and Titusville.
“Olean was always a tough one,” Haven said, noting that the Bradford-Olean game was Bradford’s final game that season.
Haven played center and defensive end. Tom Mealy ran the ball for the undefeated team, Mike Yaros was quarterback and Bill Cline was the tight end.

SPACEX AWARDED CONTRACT: NASA has announced it selected Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) of Hawthorne, California, to provide launch services for the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite-U (GOES-U) mission. GOES-U will provide advanced imagery and atmospheric measurements of Earth’s weather, oceans, and environment, as well as real-time mapping of total lightning activity and improved monitoring of solar activity and space weather.
The total cost for NASA to launch GOES-U is approximately $152.5 million, which includes the launch service and other mission-related costs.
The GOES-U mission is targeted to launch in April 2024 on a Falcon Heavy rocket from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. GOES-U is the fourth and final spacecraft in the GOES-R Series of geostationary weather satellites operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
A collaborative NOAA and NASA team manages the GOES-R Program.
