EMPORIUM — The Emporium Police Department’s K-9 officer, Novak, will not return to Emporium for duty.
The K-9 was sent back to its training facility when Officer Volker Kiefer was arrested and charged for possession of child pornography.
Kiefer entered a plea of guilty for four counts sexual abuse of children relating to child pornography, second-degree felonies, according to the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, on July 7.
While the Emporium department hoped to have K-9 Novak assigned to another officer in the department, the K-9 was instead gifted to another department who lost a K-9 to cancer.
Meanwhile, the K-9 vehicle will be sold by the borough at an upcoming sale.
