MOUNT JEWETT — The Kinzua Bridge State Park Complex announced the following public programs at Kinzua Bridge & Elk State Park during the week of Sept. 11-17. Participants should dress for the weather and plan to be outside.
Learn what features make birds unique among animals and create a futuristic bird using air dry clay and recycled materials during the Steampunk Ornithology program at Kinzua Bridge State Park at noon on Saturday.
Registration is required for this program, to register call the park office at (814) 778-5467.
Practice archery skills in a safe and fun environment during the Intro to Archery program from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The program will cover the necessary safety procedures of shooting a bow, as well as the technical skills involved in hitting a target. Target and bows will be provided.
Bring a bike and join a park educator for a ride from the park to Mount Jewett and back during the Ride the Rail Trail program from 10 a.m. until noon on Sunday.
The Knox and Kane Rail Trail consists of a flat, crushed gravel surface to safely ride bikes and enjoy nature. Helmets are required and participants should expect to bike about 8 miles. Bikers should meet at the Knox and Kane Trailhead near the skywalk.
Amphibians are uniquely adapted to survive in Northern Pennsylvania. Join staff of the Kinzua Bridge State Park to explore the adaptations of frog, toad and salamander species found at Kinzua Bridge State Park during the Awesome Amphibians virtual program at 6 p.m. on Monday.
This virtual program will be presented via Microsoft Teams; it will not take place at the park. Pre-registration is required, to register call the park office at (814) 778-5467.
Elk State Park was home to the old town of Instanter. After a safety talk, enjoy a nature paddle with the history of the town explored during the Kayak Instanter program from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday. Participants are to meet at Instanter Boat Launch off Instanter Road in Wilcox.
This program is free, but registration is required due to the limited number of kayaks available for participants to use on a first come, first served basis. To register, call the park office at (814) 778-5467.
