The area is getting ready to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the discovery of sweet crude in the Bradford Oil field on Sept. 18.
As a lead-in to the variety of events set for Saturday, Sept. 18, the Bradford Area Public Library will be the scene of several lectures regarding the local history of the Oil Industry and key figures in our area that left a lasting impact.
The lectures will be held in a two-part format Tuesday through Friday. Each night will provide two presentations on topics related to the local oil industry. The talks will begin at 6:30 p.m. and are planned to last until 8:30 p.m.
Dennis Stromberg, whose great-grandfather was John C. Looker, was instrumental in organizing the series of lectures. He explained the intent is to share aspects of the area’s history and key figures prior to Saturday.
“It’s about the people,” he said. The series concludes with an opportunity for locals with stories related to the oil industry to get together with members of the Fireside Pumpers and share.
