The Bradford High girls’ golf team is handling the 2021 season with grace and a desire to learn.
“We’re a young team. We do have three returning letterwinners from last year, but they are sophomores. So, a young team and we are figuring some things out. I’m really proud of the girls and how hard they are working at practice and at matches,” said Bradford Coach Ashlee Colwell.
Sophomores Alexia Corignani, Sophie Cornelius and Cadence Stiles are the returning letterwinners, with experience on last year’s team.
“My three that are returning are very helpful for the new roles; they were here last year and they know the dynamic,” Colwell said. “They know how matches work. I know that the two new girls have looked to them for leadership and for help.”
This year’s new additions to the team are Lillian Erickson and Payton Morgan.
When asked how the team fits in the District 9 cornucopia, Colwell said, “It’s still a little early in the year to make a claim about that. We will see as it goes here.”
As the season progresses, the young team is focused on growth and improvement.
“It’s always about growth: it’s about individual growth and about team growth,” Colwell said. “I know they all have been working on various things. I know a couple of them were in a league here. They have been working hard on the side, too.”
However, she noted that while golf is their focus, the team is made up of individuals with endearing personalities.
“They are just the nicest (girls),” Colwell said. “They are just a great group of young ladies; they work hard and they are kind and they make golf practice and matches a good place to be.”
