COUDERSPORT — Coudersport-based state police are currently looking for more information following an incident involving the impersonation of a police officer in Potter County.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. Monday, Coudersport-based state police investigated a report of two individuals impersonating a public servant at the intersection of Route 449 and Gazdag Road, Ulysses Township.
According to the report, the suspect vehicle was pulled over on Gazdag Road and the unnamed 16 year-old female victim was driving on Route 449. The suspect vehicle had the four ways activated as the victim drove past them. The suspect vehicle then activated the red and blue light bar on their vehicle and stopped the victim. After the suspects walked up to her vehicle, the victim realized the suspects were not police officers and fled. The suspects then followed the victim for a short distance, the report indicated.
The victim described the suspects to police as two white males with black zip-up hoodies with their hoods up over their heads, read the report. One of the suspects was described as an older male with a salt and pepper beard.
The police report emphasized that this is the second occurrence PSP Coudersport is investigating regarding impersonating a public servant and the suspects and suspect vehicles are very similar in both instances.
State police offered the following recommendation in the case someone is being stopped and is not sure if it is actually a police officer:
— Activate your four ways.
— Call 911 and inform them that you are being stopped and inquire if it is actually a police officer.
— If you do not have service to call 911, drive to a well lit area and/or a public location where other people would be present.
PSP Coudersport is asking the public for assistance in locating the suspects and the suspect vehicle. Anyone who has any information regarding the above incidents are asked to call PSP Coudersport at 814-274-8690.
