The Bradford City Water Authority provided updates this week on activities that included progress on Kenmar Acres Main Line Extension and the lead abatement program.
In commenting on old business involving the Kenmar Acres project, authority members said Mortimer’s Excavating has satisfactorily completed all of the outstanding punch list items.
“They have also submitted the Two-Year Maintenance Bond which will remain in effect until July 12, 2023, and also submitted the Consent of Surety to final payment. The final request for payment in the amount of $21,158.55 has been recommended for payment contingent upon receipt of the record drawings.”
The report further stated, “Through today, the Authority has had a total of 38 new customers tap into the water main extremities, five residential properties remain to be hooked up to the new water service.”
In other old business, the Authority reported that the lead abatement project “includes the replacement of 573 lead service connections and the replacement of 10 water mains, totaling 16,800 linear feet, which are constructed from cast iron pipe with lead joints.
“These water distribution mains chosen for replacement have experienced frequent leaks and breaks, and also have a high percentage of lead service connections,” the report stated. “Their removal will assist in compliance with existing and future lead safe drinking water regulations.”
The report noted that a topographic surveying of the water line replacements is currently being performed. A tentative schedule for the project includes going out to bid in December of 2021, and opening and awarding bids in late January of 2022. In addition, all executed contracts, bonds and insurance are to be completed by late February of 2022, and the PENNVEST closing date of March 22, 2022, with construction to begin in April of 2022 and completion anticipated in late 2022, the report concluded.
In matters of interest under new business, executive director Steve Disney reported that the authority had submitted an application to U.S. Sen. Bob Casey’s budget appropriations for fiscal year 2022, “however this project did not appear on Senator Casey’s final list of projects recommended for funding.”
Under his Water Systems Improvement report, Disney said “In anticipation of possible Federal Stimulus Funding, cost estimates are being prepared for improvements to the water treatment plant and distribution system.”
