POETRY: Bradford resident Donald Neal shared a poem with us, and we thought our readers might enjoy it as well.
The Universal Mystery
Have you ever stood on a mountain top?
On a clear and moonless night.
Have you ever looked at the sky above?
And be amazed at the beautiful sight.
The stars seem to fill the sky,
So many it is impossible to count.
You wonder if it could be possible,
As you look skyward your enthusiasm mounts.
This is just part of what we call the universe,
We don’t know what is beyond what we can see.
Scientists have tried but have not been successful,
Even with their telescopes and other technology.
You wonder if there are other worlds out there,
And are the inhabitants like our human race.
How many planets can there be?
Floating around in outer space.
Until man can travel at the speed of light,
Those other worlds man will never see.
The meager efforts made by man,
Have now become history.
Man has landed on the moon,
And put little machines on Mars.
There is a space station floating above the Earth,
And man made satellites among the stars.
Man has invented computers to run machines,
And something called the internet.
With all the machines those computers run,
In his quest for other life, he’s all set.
So now you have viewed the heavens and the stars,
And thought about the worlds you cannot see.
Be happy about the planet we call earth,
As you dream of what can never be.
