SMETHPORT — The McKean County Commissioners have announced special hours during the search for a new Director of Veterans Affairs.
The office, which is located on the first floor of the courthouse, is staffed on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The courthouse is open to the public and anyone needing assistance for a physical disability may enter the building on the State Street side of the building. This location is adjacent to the handicap accessible parking, has a ramp and this door is equipped with a buzzer to notify security of the need to enter at this location.
Denise Tanner, administrative assistant, will be processing DD214 requests, county veterans’ IDs, burial applications and will assist directly with pending claims and the intent of filing for compensation and pension claims.
Any other services will be continued with the aid of Tanner who will be working to connect Veterans to resources and guide them in resolving concerns.
Applications for the position of director of veterans affairs will be accepted by McKean County Human Resources through Aug. 3.
