A year later and the Bradford Area Public Library partnership with the Little Fabric
Garden is still going strong.
“I have to admit, I was a bit anxious when Janelle (library’s Marketing and Adult Programming Coordinator) approached me with an idea for a virtual library program, Every Quilt Tells A Story,” said Judy Brown, owner of the Little Fabric Garden.
“Virtual programming for our library was still in its infancy when I pitched this idea to Judy in the summer of 2020,” said Janelle Nolan. “We were both novices and at the time I was recording with my basic $99 Android phone.”
Nolan now uses a Padcaster, courtesy of the Seneca Library District, to record virtual programs and her son helped her select a video editing software package. This venture has spawned 16 biweekly videos and the creation of the library program, Building Blocks.
After a short hiatus in July, the pair will be bringing their faithful followers some new quilting projects in a few weeks.
“We have enjoyed so much positive feedback and are pleased to see people
creating the quilt blocks that have been featured in Building Blocks,” noted Brown. “We even have new quilters joining our ranks.”
The last project for the Brown-Nolan team was a four-part series that walked viewers through the making of a strip quilt.
“It was fascinating to watch the quilt come to fruition. And, Judy and I were invited to the home of Barb Haas, a local long-arm quilter,” explained Nolan. “Barb demonstrated how the three layers/components of a quilt are bound together – “quilted” – with her long-arm sewing machine. It was wonderful to share this behind-the-scenes look with our community.”
The end product of this series is a beautiful, jewel-toned quilt that Brown and Haas donated to the library.
“The library is very grateful and appreciative of Judy and Barb’s thoughtful generosity,” said library Executive Director, Hannah Dewey. “We are using this gift as a fundraiser for the library and are currently selling raffle tickets. One ticket for $5, or three for $10.”
The quilt is on display in the library’s lobby and raffle tickets can be purchased at the Circulation Desk.
