UNEMPLOYMENT RECOVERY: With the U.S. gaining 850,000 jobs in June, exceeding expert predictions, WalletHub released updated rankings for the “States Whose Unemployment Rates Are Bouncing Back Most”, along with accompanying videos and audio files, to illustrate which areas of the country have had the best recovery so far.
WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on five key metrics that compare unemployment rate statistics from the latest month for which data is available (June 2021) to key dates in 2019 and 2020.
According to highlights shared with the announcement of the report, Pennsylvania has seen a 53.96% change in unemployment from June 2019 to June 2021, with 434,501 unemployed individuals in June 2021. The number in June 2019 was 282,217, leaving Pennsyvania as 22nd in recovery rank out of the 50 states.
Between June 2021 and January 2020, Pennsylvania reported a 37.87% change, also leaving us 22 out of 50. From June 2020 to June 2021, the change was 49.11% (853,780 to 434,501), pushing Pennsylvania to 24th out of 50.
Wallethub found that Pennsylvania currently has a 6.9% unemployment rate (as of June) and that means we hold the 11th highest unemployment rate in the US.
