FARMERS VALLEY — “A Journey Thru Time” is the theme of the Cub Webelos Summer Camp that opened Wednesday and continues through Sunday at the Elk Lick Scout Reserve on the Bordell Road, Keating Township.
One hundred ninety-six scouts, leaders and staff from Cub packs in Pennsylvania and New York are attending. The scouts have been actively involved in the daily activities that include boats, fishing, nature, cub craft, BB guns, archery, swimming and team building. A rest time has also been scheduled.
Nate Thornton, scout executive/CEO of the Allegheny Highlands Council, a lifeguard certified by the Boy Scouts of America, served in the capacity.
Scouts took steps back in time as they participated in various activities ranging from primeval times forward, “Among these themes were ‘Medieval Knights,’ “Pirates,’ ‘Sheriffs and Bandits,’” said Camp Director Michael J. Crouse, Sr. of Pack 276, Gowanda, N.Y. From more recent times were displays of 33 1/3 records that appeared on the walls of Orlos Lodge.
Following lunch Friday, Camp Commissioner Warren Semmel of Smethport presented the daily “Clean Campsite Award” to Pack 422 in Kane.
That pack’s leaders are Rich Fadenholz, Dan Gregory, Travis Gillespie, Scott Randolph, Amanda Brzezinski and Matt Gayley. Scouts are RJ F., RJ H., Levi, Zack, William, Emmett, Antonio, Gary, Aiden, Heml, Ayson, Bruce, Noah, Cole, Jason, Weston, Owen and Grant.
Friday evening’s activity was “Cubopoly,” a game similar to Monopoly. Individual winners received “gold” rocks, which determined the winning pack. The winners received a camp stave, on which the scouts were asked to decorate a certain section. The winning pack of the week will receive the stave.
Crouse, said that the AHC plans a Parent/Pal Night on July 31-August 1, which is designed to orient first-time campers to camp life.
