Christopher J. Johnston, 31, of Bradford, was arraigned Thursday evening before District Judge David R. Engman on allegations that he strangled a woman.
Johnston is charged with strangulation — applying pressure to the throat or neck, a second-degree felony; and simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor, along with a summary charge.
According to the criminal complaint, at approximately 7:54 p.m. on Thursday, Bradford City Police were dispatched to an East Main Street apartment for an assault.
The caller reported that her boyfriend put his hands around her throat, stated the complaint. After arriving on scene, the woman told police that Johnston left prior to the officers’ arrival. She also stated that Johnston allegedly took both of his hands and placed them around her throat in the kitchen, making it unable for her to breathe. The officer observed that the woman’s neck had visible, red marks where Johnston placed his hands.
Johnston is currently in McKean County Jail in lieu of $10,000 monetary bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in front of Cercone on July 28.
