A Bradford man was arraigned Monday before District Judge Dominic Cercone on allegations that he strangled a woman while she held a young child.
Adam D. Weaver, 29, is charged with two counts of strangulation — applying pressure to the throat or neck, both second-degree felonies; one count of endangering the welfare of children, a second-degree felony; and two counts of simple assault, both second-degree misdemeanors.
According to the criminal complaint, around 3:03 p.m. on Monday, police were dispatched to a home on South Center Street on the report of a domestic dispute between a male and female outside their residence. A caller told dispatch that they observed the man choking the woman while she was holding a child.
The woman stated that Weaver is the father of their two children, however they were separated at the time, according to police reports. Additionally, she said that prior to the domestic incident, Weaver became irate and began throwing various items at her. She exited the apartment holding their one year-old child and Weaver allegedly followed them outside and grabbed the woman by the neck while she was still holding the child.
Police searched for Weaver after he fled the scene, though were unable to locate him.
Around 5:23 p.m., the woman arrived at the Bradford City Police Department and reported a second assault by Weaver. She stated that approximately 10 minutes after the officer left the scene to search for Weaver, he allegedly returned to the apartment and again grabbed the woman by the neck, twisting it and throwing her to the floor. Once on the floor, he pushed the point of his elbow into her right eye. Bruising under the woman’s right eye from the second assault was observed and photographed by the officer.
Weaver is currently being held at the McKean County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for July 28 before Cercone.
