Several programs have been set for this month at Kinzua Bridge State Park and Elk State Park.
The first program will be “10 Things You Might Not Know About Kinzua Bridge State Park,” a virtual program that begins at 10 a.m. on July 17.
The program will include items about the bridge and the park’s natural features. Pre-registration is required; register online at dcnr.pa.gov/events or call the park at 814-778-5467.
The second program is a walk through the woods at 1 p.m. July 17. Participants will be lead on a 1.5 mile walk on a flat trail, the General Kane Trail, to learn about the forest ecosystem at the park. Participants are asked to practice social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
A Ride the Rail Trail program will be held from 10 a.m. to noon July 31. The Knox & Kane Rail Trail is a great place to safely ride your bike and enjoy nature. Bring your bike and join a park educator for a ride from the park to Mount Jewett and back. Helmets are required and participants should expect to bike about 8 miles on a flat crushed gravel surface. Meet at the Knox & Kane Trailhead near the skywalk. Participants are asked to practice social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
At Elk State Park on July 18, the program will be “Kayak Instanter” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Elk State Park was home to the old town of Instanter. After a safety talk, enjoy a nature paddle with the history of the town explored. The park has a limited number of kayaks for participants to use on a first come, first served basis. You must register by calling the park office at (814) 778-5467. Meet at Instanter Boat Launch off Instanter Road.
