KANE — A Kane man is in McKean County Jail for allegations that he strangled a woman early Saturday morning.
Shawn Beimel, 46, was arraigned Saturday before District Judge David Engman on charges of aggravated assault, a first-degree felony; strangulation, a second-degree felony; simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor and a summary charge.
According to the criminal complaint, at approximately 12:14 a.m. Beimel grabbed a woman around the neck with his right arm, causing bruising to her neck. According to the police report, he then intentionally impeded the breathing or circulation of the blood of the woman, by applying pressure to her throat or neck.
He is incarcerated in McKean County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before District Judge David Engman on July 12.
