A COVID-19 vaccine clinic held earlier this week at Bradford Area High School for students and their parents attracted a number of participants, said officials overseeing the event.
Superintendent Katharine Pude of the Bradford Area School District said the clinic at the high school auditorium provided the first dose of Pfizer vaccines for students, as it has Food and Drug Administration approval for youngsters 12 and up. The event was conducted by Upper Allegheny Health System, a parent company for Bradford Regional Medical Center and Olean General Hospital. Universal Primary Care partnered with Upper Allegheny to conduct the clinics.
In addition to this, the Port Allegany Pharmacy was at the site to administer the Johnson and Johnson vaccine to adults who requested the inoculation.
The second dose will be administered to the same individuals in the high school auditorium from noon to 4 p.m. July 27.
“Basically, we just opened the auditorium and I provided (the medical personnel) with staff” to monitor individuals during the waiting period after they received the vaccine, Pude explained.
Pude said she would welcome additional clinics in the future to “make sure kids in our community are safe.”
Shane Oschman, school board president, emphasized that the vaccines are not mandated and the clinics are on a volunteer basis.
Kim Murphey, assistant administrator with Upper Allegheny, said 105 people were vaccinated at the Bradford site and 48 were vaccinated in Smethport at a similar event earlier this week.
“We still have Pfizer vaccines available and we’re always looking to get some clinics done,” Murphey said. “We’re always willing to (hold clinics) and if anybody has any questions when they’re going to administer vaccines, they can call me in the administrative office at the hospital.”
Murphey said individuals who have questions on the clinics and when they will be held are welcome to contact her at (814)362-8298.
