LEWIS RUN — Lewis Run-based state police still have not determined what started a fire that caused more than half a million dollars in damage to the building that is home to the Corner Bistro and Pizza Co. in Smethport.
Police did report, however, that the restaurant owners do not have insurance.
The total damage is estimated to be $550,000, state police said.
The fire started about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the restaurant’s kitchen area, located at 437 W. Main St., Smethport. There were no injuries, according to police.
The cause has not yet been determined, but the investigation continues. The investigation is being conducted by the state police fire marshal and the Smethport Fire Department.
In addition to damage to the restaurant, three tenants from upstairs apartments were left without permanent residences.
Roughly 60 to 70 firefighters from several area fire departments assisted in battling the blaze.
