Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but the Buffalo Bills are reportedly close to a deal for Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz.
Ertz, 30, has reportedly been on the trade market all offseason with the Bills being linked as one of the leaders to acquire the tight end. Despite plenty of rumors about the tight end’s days in Philadelphia being numbered, the Eagles still have not made a move.
Merrill Reese, the Eagles’ play-by-play man for over 40 years, says a deal is reportedly close. Appearing on The National Football Show, Reese told Dan Sileo that the Bills are reportedly close to a deal for Ertz.
“The word today is that they are very close to a deal and I don’t have any inside information to substantiate this, but the word is that they’re close to a deal with Buffalo for Zach Ertz,” Reese told Sileo. “I believe you have as much chance of being on this roster as Zach Ertz in a few weeks.”
Ertz has stayed away from the Eagles this offseason, but he recently took part in Tight End University, a retreat for players at the position to get together and work to improve their game. Also in attendance was Dawson Knox, the Bills’ current No. 1 tight end. It’s possible that the two end up as teammates which is something that Knox would welcome.
“I think no matter who they bring in, it just elevates everyone’s level of play,” said Knox. “No matter who they bring in, whether it’s a rookie or an All-Pro like Zach, I think it’ll be great just to elevate competition. Iron sharpens iron.”
In his career with the Eagles, Ertz has recorded 561 receptions for 6,078 yards and 36 touchdowns. Ertz was named to three consecutive Pro Bowls (2017-2019) in his career in Philadelphia and was a first-team All-Pro in 2018.
