SMETHPORT — A vacancy must be filled on the McKean County Planning Commission to bring the agency back to a full complement of nine members.
In remarks to the county commissioners Tuesday, county planning director Jeremy Morey said applicants for this non-paid position must be county residents. While the commission meets when there is specific businesss to transact — not every month — members are required to attend at least one-half of the yearly meetings.
Even residents who leave the area for warmer climates in the winter are eligible since meetings can be conducted by Zoom.
The planning commission administers the county’s subdivision and land development ordinance, evaluates proposed Pennsylvania Department of Transportation bridge rehabilitation projects, assists in developing the county’s ten-year comprehensive plan and recommends recipients for funding from the Marcellus Legacy Fund.
Interested people should submit a letter of interest to Morey or the county commissioners who will approve the new appointee. The successful applicant will serve out the remainder of an unexpired term until Jan. 31, 2022.
