FATHERS: Sunday is Father’s Day. Hopefully, you already have a gift tucked away, ready to surprise the dad in your life.
If not, keep in mind that there are 20,000 sporting goods stores (as of 2019 anyway) in the US, plenty of places sure to be open today for that fishing rod or those golf accessories — whatever Dad has had his eye on lately.
I’ve said it before, but it’s absolutely true: My mother gave me my drive, but my father gave me my dreams. Thanks to him, I could see a future. — Liza Minnelli
There are also 15,000 hardware stores open and 6,000 home centers (again, as of 2019), so tools are a possibility. With the cost of building supplies, this idea might be worth saving for next year.
There are also 7,000 men’s clothing stores, so the ever popular hat, t-shirt or tie can be attained with ease.
There are 108,000 businesses that provide landscaping services, 82,000 general automotive repair businesses and 6,000 barber shops in the nation, so if you want to buy Dad a gift that gets something done, consider making an appointment with one of these businesses.
In case you are curious who we are celebrating today, there are an estimated 72 million fathers in the US, and there are 29 million fathers who double as grandfathers. There are 24 million fathers who live in a married-couple family, while there are two million single fathers out there with children under the age of 18. In fact, 20% of the single parents in 2020 were men, according to Census data. There are 215,000 stay-at-home dads in the US as of 2020.
