DUKE CENTER — The Otto Township Cemetery Association will hold its annual “Spruce up the Cemetery” days the next two weeks.
This Saturday, they will be at the Rixford Cemetery from 10 a.m. till noon and next Saturday, the 26th at the Duke Center Cemetery, also 10 a.m. till noon. Caretakers Cody Stone and Bill Prescott will be in charge of assigning the various tasks to be done. Anyone who wishes to help on either or both days may simply show up with their work clothes on, along with a smile.
Cousin’s Design of Duke Center is preparing the sign for each property and the association expects to have them erected sometime this summer. Also, having a sign made for the recently cleared burial grounds in Prentisvale was discussed at Thursday’s meeting and a decision will be reached after consulting with Scott Bell and Joel Gilfert, the duo who have been doing the work at the Prentisvale site.
Association president Sharon Schwab will be working, along with others, poring over the old and inaccurate maps once a month at the township office to more accurately determine the locations of those interred and the available lots at both Duke and Rixford.
Schwab will check with the three landowners whose properties abut the Duke Center Cemetery to discuss the drainage situation. And a reminder will be sent to the Otto Township supervisors informing them that the trees they are to help remove are still dead, still unsightly and still potentially dangerous.
