The McKean County Fair Association is once again honoring fathers during their 2nd Annual Father’s Day Chicken BBQ this Sunday.
Board President, Kristina Francis, said they held the first chicken barbecue in 2020 after the fair was cancelled due to pandemic restrictions.
“The reason we started it was because we weren’t sure what the summer was going to bring,” said Francis. “We already cancelled the fair so we didn’t have the income. We wanted to be sure we were able to maintain the grounds upkeep and pay our bills. We did it as an initial fundraiser last June and followed it up with a later chicken barbecue in July.”
Dinners, consisting of barbecue chicken, macaroni salad, baked beans, roll and butter, are $10 each and will be sold from noon until sold out. Pre-orders are currently being accepted by calling 814-887-5361.
“There will be a drive-thru pick up at the fairgrounds like last year, though this year there will be some picnic tables on the grounds to stop and eat if people so choose — or they can just drive through and take it with them,” explained Francis.
Social distancing should be observed and patrons are asked to clean up after themselves.
Although the fair will be occurring this year, Francis said they are continuing the event as a tradition for the community.
