A number of Foster Township residents still don’t have their address signs up.
Supervisor Gus Crissman brought up the address sign campaign at Monday’s regular township meeting to remind residents who have held off on installing signs to get them up.
A few years ago, township residents were required to purchase a sign with the number of their street address to make their homes easily identifiable to first responders.
“I can’t stress (enough) how important it is to have that in case of an emergency,” Crissman said. “We’d like those that are missing to be in place as soon as possible.”
Also at the meeting, supervisors approved the hire of a new full-time police officer, Andrew M. Dexter. The hire is effective May 10 at a rate of $18.46 per hour.
Under the police department report for May, Police Chief Tom Munn said his department handled 211 complaints, 14 of which were motor vehicle accidents. Officers issued 47 citations and conducted 12 criminal investigations.
Code Enforcement Officer Kevin Shaffer said he received two new code complaints in May.
One, on Interstate Parkway, was for a claim that an addition to a property for recreational purposes was not safe; Shaffer confirmed that a building permit had been issued and that the building inspector checked.
The other was a complaint that someone was burning rubbish on South Kendall Avenue.
Shaffer talked about some older complaints, too. A garage and junk car have both been removed from a Derrick Road property. A Harrisburg Run property is in the process of getting cleaned up, too. He has been trying to reach out to two other property owners on Interstate Parkway, one on Bates Road and one on Derrick Road, too.
Road Foreman Chad Babcock said his department is getting ready to paint lines on East Main Street; they are just having a hard time getting paint so it might be a few days. The department is getting ready to have roads chip sealed, too.
The township will not hold a work session on Thursday.
The regular supervisors meeting for July will be held one week later than normal on July 12 at 7 p.m. due to the July 4 holiday.
