Cyclone man accused in assault
A Cyclone man is facing charges stemming from an alleged assault over the weekend.
Charles A. Nelson, 25, of 101 Pithole Road, was arraigned Saturday before District Judge Dominic Cercone on charges of strangulation, a second-degree felony; simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor; and summary charges of dangerous burning, harassment, and disorderly conduct.
According to the criminal complaint, at 3:10 a.m. Saturday, Lewis Run-based state police were dispatched to Pithole Road for a report of a physical domestic dispute. A trooper arrived to find a pile of clothing burning in the road.
Nelson told the officer that he and a female got into an argument about him having physical contact with another female, and she pushed him. Nelson said he pushed the female into a wall, court records stated.
Meanwhile, the female told police she saw Nelson kiss another female at a bar, so she called someone to pick her up. Back at the Pithole Road home, she started packing things into a suitcase, but Nelson knocked the suitcase to the floor, grabbed the items that fell out and lit them on fire in the roadway, according to the complaint.
He allegedly came back inside and pushed her against the wall, and the female went outside. Outside, Nelson grabbed her by the throat with both hands, picked her up, slammed her on the ground and knelt on her stomach, the complaint alleged. He took off his own clothes and added them to the fire.
Nelson is free on $25,000 unsecured bail, and a preliminary hearing is set for June 28.
