ULYSSES — The Pennsylvania Lumber Museum announced that there will not be a Bark Peelers’ Festival this year. Vendors and other participants will be receiving letters in the mail in the upcoming days with a refund of any deposits paid.
The festival, typically held each July, brings in many visitors to see the popular “woodhick competition,” where participants compete in four lumber industry related contests over two days. Other contests held include greased pole, log rolling, cross cut saw and birling contests.
The museum will still be open for visitors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 2 through July 4.
“Thank you for your continued support and patience as we persevere on the difficult journey of recovery from the effects of COVID-19,” read a press release. “We are certainly planning for the return of the Bark Peelers’ Festival in July 2022.
The museum is currently closed temporarily due to a lack of staff from COVID-19 positivity/exposure. The museum will reopen at 10 a.m. this Friday.
