A man who was shot during a reported domestic dispute in August will face simple assault charges.
McKean County District Attorney Stephanie L. Vettenburg-Shaffer reported on Friday that the investigation into the alleged incident, which happened Aug. 16, 2020, in Foster Township, is now complete.
Shaffer released a statement in which she described an assault on a female that ended with the female shooting a man — Christopher Horton — injuring him. The female’s name was not released.
“Police initially responded to a call describing an assault on a female caller by a known male outside a residence on Harrisburg Run in the early morning hours,” Shaffer explained. “Foster Township Police and Bradford City Police responded.”
Horton left the scene before officers arrived, Shaffer said. However, minutes after police left, they were called back because the female allegedly shot Horton.
“Foster Township Police conducted interviews and completed a thorough investigation that included assistance from Bradford City Police, Pennsylvania State Police Forensic Services Unit, the Pennsylvania State Police Crime Lab, K9 searches by K9’s with the McKean County Drug Task Force K9 Unit and the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Department, and the District Attorney’s Office,” she said. “At this time, all reports have been received.”
Horton survived, but it is unclear how serious his injuries were.
“The investigation revealed that a male was hit by a single bullet in the lower body,” Shaffer stated. “Based on a review of the evidence and relevant statutes, the female will not be charged in the shooting.”
Foster Township Officer Eric Neiswonger is the lead investigator.
