AUSTIN — This weekend, the park staff at Sinnemahoning State Park are offering interactive programs for all ages.
Programs will include, on Saturday, a habitat walk, snake habitat game and a campground program with movie, and, on Sunday, three pontoon boat tours of the reservoir.
Saturday from 2:30-4 p.m. will be Habitats of PA Walk. Participants will learn to identify the different habitats in Pennsylvania and the reptiles and amphibians that live in each. The program begins indoors with a brief intro and activity followed by a short hike to look at habitats. It is geared toward adults and older children. Meet in the classroom of the Wildlife Center.
From 6-6:30 Saturday will be a Snake Habitat Game. Attendees will learn about the habitat needs of two of Pennsylvania’s snake species. The activity is for children of all ages and will be held in the campground playground.
On Saturday from 8-9:30 p.m. in the campground amphitheater will be Snakes: Myths and Facts. Visitors will learn the truth about timber rattlers and other snakes of Pennsylvania. An interactive campground talk will be followed by a 30-minute video, “Shadow of Misunderstanding.”
On Sunday, Pontoon Boat Tours will be held at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and noon starting in the Lake Day Use Area.
Participants will join park staff for a relaxing and informative one-hour tour of the George B. Stevenson Dam Reservoir. The program is free but donations are requested. All ages are welcome. Reservations are recommended but not required.
