JOHNSONBURG — The Ruffed Grouse Society will offer a first-of-its-kind bird dog handlers’ clinic in northern Pennsylvania for new hunters and others just wanting to build a better training relationship with their bird dog.
The Upland Bird Hunt and Allegheny Chapters are offering this training at the Rolfe Beagle Club at 1016 Long Level Road, Johnsonburg, PA 15845. Registration is required to attend this course; contact Lisa Rossi at lisar@ruffedgrousesociety.org. Registration is free.
The program will cover:
• Grouse and woodcock habitat identification;
• Puppy training — what to expect in the first year;
• Raising birds for training; and
• Advanced demonstrations, and Q&As for experienced dog handlers.
Lion Country Supply will do a presentation on dog training aids. The program will be June 26, starting at 7:30 a.m. and ending around noon.
“Our goal”, said Tommy Launer and Tom McPherson, co-leaders, “is to develop a network of hunters willing to help new dog owners and hunters.”
