EMS WEEK: This week, May 16-22, marked the 46th annual National EMS Week, initiated in 1974 when then-President Gerald Ford authorized a week-long celebration of the first responders and the work they do in their communities.
The week was celebrated nationwide with education, safety and the increase of awareness with children, as well as Save-a-Life Day (Thursday).
McKean County District Attorney Stephanie L. Vettenburg-Shaffer issued a statement:
“At the conclusion of 2021 EMS Week, the District Attorney’s Office would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to McKean County paramedics, EMTs, and EMS. The role these medical professionals fill is critical. Their work is rarely publicized, but it is frequent. I recently saw their heroic efforts close-up and their efforts were just that — heroic. Countless lives have been saved by these professionals and we owe them our gratitude. Thank you.”

NATIONAL WAITSTAFF DAY: Friday was National Waitstaff Day. While we are a day late, we wanted to recognize the countless staff that serve food and beverages to the masses.
According to the 2019 American Community Survey, 2,167,363 waiters/waitresses ages 16 and over were employed in the U.S. About 34.4% were full-time and 69.2% were female.

TODAY: Today is National Pudding Day and National Buy a Musical Instrument Day. If those aren’t really your style, it is also National Maritime Day and National Solitaire Day.
So, whether you prefer a sweet dessert, playing some tunes on a new instrument, hitting the water on a hot day or playing a solo game of cards in the A/C, we hope you celebrate today in the way that suits you best.
