BROOKVILLE — Brookville made its presence known on its own home track during Friday’s District 9 Class AA championships, with the boys and girls teams both winning district titles.
The Coudersport boys finished second behind Brookville’s 111.50 points with 80, while the Johnsonburg girls finished third, followed by Elk County Catholic and Coudersport.
The Falcons crowned two district champions in Dalton Keglovits and Cale Ayers. Keglovits won the pole vault (13-0), while Ayers took home a victory in the shot put (57-2.25). Ayers also finished second in the discus behind Redbank Valley’s Cam Wagner.
Numerous other Coudy competitors placed in their respective events, including Ethan Ross, who finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.41 and fifth in the 200-meter dash in 23.44. Josh Ross finished fourth in the latter event in 23.16, while Gavyn Ayers took third with a time of 23.14.
Keglovits also finished second behind Brookville’s Kyle MacBeth in the 400-meter dash in 51.74.
Also placing for Coudy was Kevin Sherry, who took fourth in both the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs.
Two of Coudy’s relay teams finished second. The 400-meter relay team of Josh Ross, Gavyn Ayers, Owen Ott and Ethan Ross ran a time of 44.47, while the 1600-meter relay team of Josh Ross, Ott, Brandt Kightlinger and Keglovits finished behind Kane with a time of 3:33.10. Andrew Page finished sixth in the discus as well.
Elsewhere, Jburg’s Aaron Myers was second in the 800-meter run and Elk Catholic’s Joe Wolfe finished second in the 1600-meter run in 4:33.79. Otto-Eldred’s Josh Schuessler was sixth in the same event. Wolfe also finished second in the 3200-meter run.
In the long jump, Kane’s Zuke Smith came in second, while Smethport’s Ryli Burritt finished fourth. Burritt also placed second in the triple jump.
For the girls, Oswayo Valley’s Cheyenne Mehl was a double winner, winning both the 800-meter and 1600-meter runs. Jburg’s Chloe Trumbull was another double winner, sweeping the hurdle events.
Coudersport’s Rosalyn Page won the discus with a throw of 116 feet and 10 inches, while ECC’s Tori Newton took home a victory in the javelin with a mark of 122 feet and four inches. Emily Foster of Sheffield emerged victorious in the high jump.
Other competitors who placed in their respective events included Coudy’s Kylie Welsh, who took fourth in the 100-meter dash and Savannah Gill, who came in fifth in the 200-meter dash. Jburg’s Annasophia Stauffer took second in the same event in 27.38.
ECC’s Sophia Bille finished third in the 1600-meter run and Grace Neubert was second in the 3200-meter run. Behind Neubert for third was Northern Potter’s Courtney Martin, while Smethport’s Jenna Gregory came in fifth.
Cameron County’s Morgan Lorenzo placed third in both the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles.
Placing in the pole vault were Port Allegany’s Alliyah Penick (2nd) and Otto-Eldred’s Brooke Close (tied for 4th).
Coudy’s Sarah Chambers was third in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump, while Sheffield’s Emily Leichtenberger, Otto-Eldred’s Taylor English and Jburg’s Ella Lindberg finished in that order behind Rosalyn Page in the discus.
Page also came in second in the shot put, while Allison Geci and Newton finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
