A Mount Jewett man accused of sexually assaulting two children was convicted Tuesday in McKean County Court.
A jury trial for Kevin S. Brown, 58, was held before President Judge John Pavlock.
According to McKean County District Attorney Stephanie L. Vettenburg-Shaffer, Brown was convicted of statutory sexual assault (defendant 11 or more years older than victim) and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse on a victim less than 13 years of age, first-degree felonies; sexual assault, a second-degree felony; corruption of minors as a course of conduct, a third-degree felony; corruption of minors and two counts of indecent assault (victim less than 13 years of age), first-degree misdemeanors.
Trooper Neil Ginther of the Lewis Run State police barracks investigated the case, and McKean County 2nd Assistant District Attorney Ashley M. Shade prosecuted the case, according to Shaffer.
“The defendant was ordered to undergo an assessment pursuant to the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (formerly Megan’s Law),” Shaffer said. “Sentencing will be scheduled following receipt of the assessment.”
She said the crimes happened between Sept. 24, 2016, and Aug. 14, 2019, in Mount Jewett.
Court records filed at the time of Brown’s arrest alleged that he had sexual contact on multiple occasions with a 6-year-old and an 8-year-old.
“Today’s trial was the first jury trial held in McKean County following the expiration of the judicial emergency order during which jury trials were suspended due to COVID-19 precautions,” Shaffer noted.
