A Bradford man is facing allegations that he choked a woman while he was angry.
Arthur E. Crooks III, 44, of 24 Walker Ave., Upper Apt., was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Dominic Cercone on charges of strangulation, recklessly endangering another person and simple assault, second-degree misdemeanors; and harassment, a summary charge.
According to the criminal complaint, Bradford City Police were dispatched at 11:41 a.m. Tuesday to a report of a domestic at Crooks’ apartment.
Police learned that Crooks had become agitated over a Facebook feed about his cousin’s recent bail increase and the ongoing investigation about it. He asked his girlfriend to come over to where he was sitting and started yelling at her about their relationship, according to the complaint.
She went to talk to Crooks, and he shouted, saying, “You don’t need to say anything shut up and listen,” the complaint stated. Crooks started to walk toward the kitchen, and “rather than saying anything she only shook her head.”
Crooks turned around, grabbed her by the neck, started choking her and called her a derogatory term, the complaint alleged. She became lightheaded and could not breath. He let go of her throat, and she went to the bathroom to call for help.
The woman was treated at Bradford Regional Medical Center, the complaint stated.
Crooks was committed to McKean County Jail in lieu of 10% of $10,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for June 2.
