Bail for Anthony Fenton, a Bradford man who is accused of assaulting his live-in girlfriend, is now $600,000.
When paramedics arrived at Fenton’s 117 Main St. apartment on May 10, she was not breathing and had no pulse. They revived her, and she went to a trauma center for treatment; meanwhile, Fenton was committed to McKean County Jail in lieu of $120,000 bail for assault charges.
The woman has since died.
District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer indicated on Sunday that additional charges are possible but explained the investigation is still ongoing. The autopsy report was not yet completed on Sunday, too.
On Monday, Shaffer said, “The commonwealth filed a motion to increase the defendant’s bail and we had a hearing with Judge (Dominic) Cercone and he granted the motion to set bail at $600,000.”
No new charges were filed as of press time.
Current charges against Fenton, 36, are aggravated assault-causes serious bodily injury with extreme indifference to the value of human life, a first-degree felony; simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, second-degree misdemeanors.
Officials have not released the name of the alleged victim, but she was identified online as Tammy Kellner.
Her injuries, which included deep bruising and ligature marks around her neck and human bite marks on her face and hand, “appeared to be a result of blunt force trauma and strangulation,” the complaint stated.
Fenton told police that the woman fell down the stairs the night before, court records allege.
She was first taken to Bradford Regional Medical Center, then flown to a trauma center.
A preliminary hearing for Fenton is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. June 2 before Cercone. Fenton is being represented by the McKean County Public Defender’s Office.
